present progressive - continous form of the present
The present progressive (-ing form) is used if you are doing something at a certain point in time or doing something temporarily.
► The present progressive is formed, by using a form ofbe as auxiliary as a link to the main verb -ing to which in turn the suffix -ing is added.
example: I am playing football.
► of course, there are several exceptions you will have to pay attention to:
► mute -e is omitted:
| come | move |
| coming | moving |
► doubling of consonants:
| stop | hit |
| stopping | hitting |
► negation uses also the auxiliary (be) :
| I | am not 'm not | playing. |
| he/she/it | is not isn't | playing. |
| we/you/they | are not aren't | playing. |
► in a questions the auxiliary is put first:
| Am | I | playing? |
| Is | he/she/it | playing? |
| Are | we/you/they | playing? |
