Genauso wie im Deutschen etwas Hand und Fuß haben kann, bedient sich auch die englische Umgangssprache gerne dieses standhaften Körperteiles, um ein wenig Abwechslung ins Spiel zu bringen:

to put a foot in one´s mouth =  ins Fettnäpfchen treten

z.B.:

When I said to this chick that for her age she really looked good, I really put a foot in my mouth.

to get a foothold = seinen Fuß in die Tür kriegen

z.B.:

If we get this contract we will really get a foothold there.

to pussy foot = mit Samtpfoten anfassen

You don´t have to pussyfoot around here, speak out your mind.

to get off on the wrong foot = einen schlechten Start haben

My wife and I really got off on the wrong foot at the beginning, but then we really learned to appreciate one another.
