Silver Idioms – silberne Aussichten

In Zeiten der Finanzkrise sind Rohstoffe wieder sehr gefragt, da ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass auch die englische Umgangssprache auf Edelmetalle zurückgreift:

to be silver-tongued = beredt, eloquent

z.B.:

Don´t let yourself be talked into something by this silver-tongued salesman.

to be born with a silver spoon in one´s mouth = aus  privilegiertem Haus stammen

z.B.:

Johnny got to be where he is all by himself, he wasn´t born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

to cross palm with silver = jemanden schmieren

z.B.:

Since I crossed palm with silver, the service of my janitor is so much better.
